FACT Youth Board as Partners in Civic Leadership

This fall, FACT statewide youth board members took part in the annual Youth as Partners in Civic Leadership Retreat, hosted by UW-Extension. This dynamic, weekend long experience was designed to strengthen leadership skills, build community, and inspire youth and adult collaboration. The retreat brought together young people from across Wisconsin for hands-on activities, team building, and meaningful conversations about creating positive change in their communities.

Throughout the retreat, FACT statewide youth board members engaged in a variety of outdoor activities, such as canoeing, hiking, and archery. These activities encouraged communication, trust building, and problem solving. Board members had countless opportunities to connect with peers and step outside their comfort zones.

A major focus of the weekend was action planning. Guided by facilitators, the board explored issues they care about and brainstormed practical ways to strengthen the youth voice in local decision making. They worked together to set goals, outline steps, and think critically about the role they can play in shaping their communities. The retreat culminated in group presentations where different groups came together to share their action plan ideas.

From learning new leadership tools, to laughing their way through outdoor challenges, the experience left a lasting impact. FACT statewide youth board members returned home feeling inspired, confident, and ready to take action. Their partnership in YPCL reflects FACT's ongoing commitment to uplifting youth voices and helping young leaders build the skills they need to make meaningful change, one experience, one conversation, and one action plan at a time.
